Ocho proyectos con participación española se presentan en Cartoon Movie 2010, el foro europeo de cine de animación que celebrará su duodécima edición en la ciudad francesa de Lyon del 3 al 5 de marzo. España es el segundo país en importancia justo por detrás de Francia, que revalida su liderazgo en el evento con 18 proyectos.

Cartoon Movie 2010 will present eight projects produced with participation by Spanish companies. This forum for European animated feature films will celebrate its 12th edition in the French city of Lyon from March 3rd through the 5th. Spain is the second most represented country, following just behind France, who is reaffirming last year’s leadership with 18 projects in the event.

La lista de compañías españolas con proyectos seleccionadas en Lyon incluye a Filmax Animation (‘Adventure on the Way’); Forma Animada (‘Gero, Adventures in Tierradentro’); Milimetros Feature Animation (‘The Heart of the Oak’); Dygra Films (‘Holy Night!’); Artefacto Producciones (‘O Apóstolo’); IB Cinema (‘Ramón’) y Edebe Audiovisual (‘Pet Pals – Marco Polo’s Code’).
Sin financiación española pero con una gran contribución en el plano artístico de un autor español participa ‘Extraordinary Tales’, una coproducción de Luxemburgo, Francia y Estados Unidos. El filme está escrito y dirigido por el realizador español afincado en Estados Unidos, Raúl García (uno de los directores de ‘El lince perdido’).
Un total de 50 películas se presentarán en esta cita que reúne a productores, distribuidores e inversores de la industria audiovisual con el objetivo de impulsar y promocionar el cine de animación europeo. Del medio centenar de proyectos participantes, 11 títulos están producidos en 3D estereoscópico, lo que supone el 22 por ciento de los largometrajes presentados y demuestra el gran momento que atraviesa la proyección 3D en salas de cine.
Entre las películas finalizadas que serán proyectadas en 3D se encuentra ‘Around the World in 50 Years’, del belga Ben Stassen, película elegida para inaugurar Cartoon Movie 2010. También destaca este año el salto al cine de animación del director francés Patrice Leconte y los nuevos trabajos de Ari Folman autor de la aclamada ‘Waltz with Bashir’ y Kari Juusonen, responsable de ‘Nico, el reno que quería volar’, entre otros.
La diversidad y riqueza de la animación europea quedará además reflejada con películas estrenadas recientemente como ‘Eleanor’s Secret’, ‘Yona Yona Penguin’ o ‘Metropia’. En total, las películas y proyectos de largometraje seleccionados en el evento suman un presupuesto total superior a los 300 milliones de euros y suponen alrededor de 70 horas de animación. Desde la creación de Cartoon Movie, más de 140 proyectos con un presupuesto global de 1.000 millones de euros han conseguido completar su financiación.

‘Extraordinary Tales’ is a co-production between Luxembourg, France and the United States, but although it has no Spanish financing, it does have the considerable artistic contribution of a Spanish author. The film was written and directed by Raúl García, a Spanish director who lives in the United States (one of the co-directors of ‘The Missing Lynx’).
A total of 50 films will be presented in this event, which attracts producers, distributors and investors from the audiovisual industry with the aim of promoting and sponsoring European animated films. Of the fifty participating projects, 11 titles have been produced in stereoscopic 3D. This represents 22 per cent of the feature films presented in the event and is proof of the current popularity of 3D projections in movie theaters. Completed films to be projected in 3D include ‘Around the World in 50 Years’, by Belgian director Ben Stassen, which was chosen to inaugurate Cartoon Movie 2010. Other highlights in this year’s edition include French director Patrice Leconte’s debut animation film; the works of Ari Folman, author of the acclaimed ‘Waltz with Bashir’; and Kari Juusonen who brought us ‘Niko & the Way to the Stars’ among others.
The program will also reflect the diversity and abundance of European animation with recently launched films such as ‘Eleanor’s Secret’, ‘Yona Yona Penguin’ and ‘Metropia’. In all, the feature films and projects selected to take part in the event have a cumulative budget in excess of 300 million EUR and comprise about 70 hours of animation. Since Cartoon Movie was created, over 140 projects with a total budget of 1 billion EUR have managed to obtain full financing thanks to the event.
